This page is dedicated to Crestwood Track & Field legend, Bridget Franek. Bridget captured six state championships as a member of the 4x800m relay team and as an individual in the 800m, 1600m, & 3200m. She broke four state records her senior year in 2006 and still owns the Crestwood High School records in the 800m, 1600m, 3200m, and the 4x800m relay. After graduating from Crestwood, she attended Penn St. on a track & field/cross country scholarship. Not only did she graduate in 2010 with a degree in kinesiology, but she was also able to capture the NCAA Division I 3,000m steeplechase title in a time of 9:38.86. After graduating from Penn State, Bridget decided to run for Mark Rowland in Eugene, Oregon for the Oregon Track Club Elite (OTC) program. Bridget was sponsored by Nike and ran for OTC and USATF for three years. Her speciality was the 3,000m steeplechase and she was U.S. national runner-up in 2011 & 2012. In just her second year as a professional, Bridget was able to make the 3,000m steeplechase final at the 2012 London Olympic games! Unfortunately, Bridget was unable to qualify for the World Championsips in Moscow for the 2013 season & Beijing for the 2014 season due to injury. 2016 saw the resurgence of Bridget's times and she narrowly missed the 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro by placing 6th at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. Bridget officially retired from competitve track & field in 2016 and took the girls distance coaching position at the University of Akron. In 2018, she officially accepted a position in Eugene, Oregon to help build a new community sports complex through the Eugene Civic Alliance. The Crestwood community is so proud of our Olympian and good luck in all that you do!
